Young police officer Steve Burns (Al Pacino) goes undercover in the New York gay scene to find a serial killer who has already murdered numerous homosexuals in the most brutal of ways. Although heterosexual himself, Steve finds more and more pleasure in sex with men. This also jeopardizes his marriage to Nancy (Karen Allen).
